“I would be happy if I had more money”, said many people often.
Yet, “according to the 2013 World Happiness Report, The U.S. tripled its per capita income in the last few decades but has seen “significant declines” in happiness levels over time”, reported Leslie Nguyen-Okwu in her article titled Is It Time for the Advent of Gross National Happiness? . So if we are getting richer, why are we not happy??? The evidence suggests that anxiety and depression are the single most important cause of unhappiness.
Let’s get some help, people!
The reality is that there is a stigma when it comes to mental wellness. People don’t want to be seen as crazy or messed up, which makes them reluctant to seek help. If you, or someone you know, is depressed or anxious, encourage them to seek treatment. There are effective, researched based treatments for both depression and anxiety. We need to remove the social barriers to mental health care so that people feel comfortable getting help.
Why be Happy?
The benefits to mental wellness, according to the report, include improvement in cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems, increased life span, increased cognitive and creative flexibility, and ironically, higher income; just to name a few.
The moral to this story is that money does not bring happiness but happiness brings money!
