You are the expert of your own experience and therefore in charge of your counseling goals. Our role is to support your efforts with compassion, insight and resources. If you are not sure of your specific goals, that is OK. You know you want to feel better. We can start there.
The counseling plan includes;
- An initial appointment where you and the counselor will discuss the reason you are seeking counseling, what you expect to gain from counseling and current counseling goals. Again, if you don’t have a specific goal in mind, that is OK. You and the counselor can talk about things you may want to work on before devising a plan.
- Subsequent sessions include discussion, goal follow up and celebrating victories, both large and small. Additional goals can be added, if you desire and as you feel ready. When we find success it creates excitement to continue to find even more success.
Depending upon why you are seeking counseling the frequency of your visits and the time it will take to accomplish your goals varies. Effective change happen in small increments over time. As you work on the changes, you will have more time in between sessions to practice/implement your new behaviors. If you are working through grief, the frequency and number of sessions vary too.
There are many techniques to discover what is blocking personal success and life satisfaction. Counselors are trained to help you figure out what is in between you and the life of your dreams.
