Little efforts over time can change a life. Sometimes these efforts are in a direction that can become big problems. For example, a sedentary lifestyle can deplete our bones of calcium, can lead to diminished muscle strength and often soreness and injury when we do want to do something active. The body can suffer. We can get into mental habits, too. We can entertain thoughts of worry, regret over things past and anxiety of things that may never come. Taking small steps toward the life you desire adds up over time. One activity that has science behind it is to recount your happy moments daily. Recounting at least three blessing on a daily basis has been shown to help people improve their subjective happiness. A small activity once a day does not take much effort yet yields great results in a short bit of time. Imagine if you continue the habit for a year. Remember persistence is the key.
Other efforts that add up are to take the stairs instead of the elevator, park further away from the store so you increase the number of steps you take in a day or put your things away when you come home rather than dropping them somewhere only to have to pick them up again later.
Over time, little things can add up to make a pleasurable life or one that is not very desireable. What kind of life would you like? Do one little thing today towards a happier you.
