Stress is often caused when our brain tells us that things are not what we want. We think we want no challenges at work but if we really had no work challenges, we would become bored. We want life to be easy yet if it was we would create challenges to entertain ourselves. When we change the way we look at stress we become less stressed, more calm and thus better able to operate at our best.
When you start to feel stressed, evaluate whether or not this situation could be view from a different perspective. A more empowered perspective. For example, I have many things that need to be accomplished before I leave town for the weekend. I can experience this situation as overwhelming and stress my way through it, reminding myself how stressed I am and how I have so many things to do and worry about not getting them done. I prefer to talk with myself about the privilege I have to be able to go out of town, the weather appropriate clothes I will pack, the fact that I have work that I feel responsible to finish before I leave, and so on. These conversations empower and encourage me. Helping me be my best self.
