Our beautiful, sophisticated, intricate brains are great at thinking. For some of us, it feels like they never stop. They solve problems, then create more problems to solve. We fall into the trap of thinking that they are real problems that need addressing.
Remember when we were children experiencing each moment as it came. What a joy! We didn’t have the curse of thinking about possible future problems so we could think of the countless possible solutions to events that had not come to pass.
This notion of Letting It Be would require us to:
- Notice when our brain is thinking (constant dialog or self-talk)
- Consider whether or not the thoughts are necessary thoughts
- If the thoughts are not serving you in the current moment, consider letting them go. Just be in the moment. If we continue to allow the brain to keep churning on the thought, it usually results in uncomfortable emotions and stress. One way to test if the thought is serving you it to ask yourself, “Am I creating an issue because I am thinking about past or future events?” “Is this happening right now?”
The Let It Be concept is akin to living in the moment free of judgement and labeling.
Another brain feature to consider; our brains seem to work brilliantly when on auto-pilot. For example, I have never had to remind myself to breathe, beat my heart or circulate my blood. I can even recount some lovely occurrences where a situation needed a solution. I refrained from churning it over and over in my mind and the answer still came at the right time. I am sure you have had experiences like this, too. I have also had the experiences where I ruminate on the thought until I had created stress and great discomfort. I like the former circumstances much better.
Love your brain and appreciate all that is does remembering, of course, there can be too much of a good thing.
Brilliant! I absolutely needed to hear this today! Love your blog! ❤️
Thanks Karen!
