There is a subtle difference between intention and expectation yet they yield very different emotions. When we expect a situation to turn out a specific way we are often disappointed. If we were to lower our expectations then evaluate the situation after the fact we may be happier with the outcomes. Even still, we could suspend all judgement of the situation and have no resulting emotions.
Setting an intention for a particular outcome is different. Having the intention that the situation will turn out well is different. It is a hope or a goal where we look for a more general outcome. It opens our minds to alternate yet equally pleasing outcomes.
Going into the holidays we spend time with many different people, many of whom are not our usual tribe. Perhaps we will set an intention to have a happy and safe holiday season rather than expecting the holidays to be a specific way. See how your events and interactions change without expectations and with good intentions.
