So many times we expect situations to unfold in specific ways we miss the wonderful ways in which they are unfolding. We get so focused on what we expect and plan that we miss the wonderful ways in which situations are coming together better than we could have even imagined. This phenomenon is referenced in many different spiritual (God’s Will), philosophical (Buddhism) and scientific (Positive Psychology) philosophies.
We tend to think that situations should work out in a certain way. An opportunity presents itself and we are so busy looking at ways it will not work that we miss the opportunity. We remain unhappy because we tell ourselves things are just not working out, I can’t catch a break, it should not be like this. Try looking at the situation as they unfold without expectation. Ask rather what can these events mean for me?
At one point in my life I was not happy in a particular situation. I kept trying to find new ways to look at the situation, to no avail. I was not happy and then to make it worse (at least I thought it was worse) I had a person come into this environment that made the situation even more difficult. The situation changed eventually and as I reflected upon the experience, the person that was making the situation so difficult actually helped make the change easier. I could have just dwelled on how awful this person was instead I found the blessing in the situation. This is a much more empowered way to view the world.
