There are so many happy events that happen each and every day. We often take them for granted or just don’t acknowledge them at all. If we do have something really great happen to us we may discount the joy as just a fluke. We don’t want to get to excited about it because we feel it won’t last. We may tell ourselves that most events are not significant enough to elicit joy. Even noticing small things, like a loved one’s smile, a good parking spot, a drink when you are thirsty, even a phone call from someone when you are thinking about them can be uplifting now and later.
Give yourself permission to absorb the good feelings. Really feel your good feelings articulating each and every detail about the fantastic event or circumstances. Revisit the joys in your day by recalling at least three joyful highlights in you day every day. This is fun to do at the dinner table with young people. It is equally enjoyable to share with a friend or significant other.
Recognizing and reminiscing about the good things in life actually helps your brain rewire and be more receptive to seeing the positive in everyday life. When we see more positive we feel more positive. When we feel more positive we see more positive. This cycle of joy is amazing, uplifting and empowering. Get started on the best of our life today!
